February 2026: Index Cards by Moyra Davey
Read more general info about my book & writing club here.
The March selection is Index Cards by Moyra Davey, a sharp, intimate collection of essays that blurs the lines between criticism, memoir, and meditation.
“Drawn from decades of writing — originally composed on index cards and mailed to friends — this collection moves fluidly through art, photography, film, literature, and everyday life. Davey reflects on her work and the work of others with an honesty that feels at once intellectual and deeply personal, creating a reading experience that is both fragmentary and cohesive.”
I have read this book before and simply just wanted to read it again. I have always had a desire to read something reflective but unconventional. There’s something compelling about writing that resists neat categorization, one that feels alive, immediate, and in conversation with the world. When I learned about Davey’s process — physically writing on index cards, embracing fragments, allowing thought to unfold without rigid structure — I was instantly intrigued, obviously. Lol.
